Scripture reference: Matthew 18:21-35

Parable of the Unforgiving Servant: In this parable, Jesus tells the story of a king who forgives a servant’s enormous debt, so large that the servant could never repay it. The king, moved by compassion, cancels the debt entirely. However, this same servant later refuses to forgive a much smaller debt owed to him by a fellow servant. Instead of showing mercy, he has the man thrown into prison. When the king hears of this, he is furious and revokes his forgiveness, punishing the servant for his lack of grace and mercy.

GRACE IN ACTION

Forgiving as We Have Been Forgiven

Matthew 18:21-35 reminds us of God’s boundless mercy through the gift of His Son Jesus. I have often prayed for grace, asking God to cleanse me, to heal me, and to forgive me. And He does. God freely forgives us, and we are called to extend that same grace to others.

Yet, how often do we struggle to offer that same grace? Do we hold onto bitterness, anger, or resentment? Do we judge others more harshly than we would want to be judged? This parable challenges us: God’s grace is meant to be shared, not just received.

Forgiveness is the ultimate act of grace in action. It's not always easy; it may even feel undeserved. But when we choose to forgive, we reflect the heart of God. We let go of burdens that were never meant for us to carry. We open the door for healing, restoration, and peace.

Affirmation:

It is by the grace of God given to me that I release all anger and resentment. I choose forgiveness, just as I have been forgiven. His mercy covers me, and I will walk in grace, spreading it to others. In every relationship I cultivate, may my heart reflect His love.
